Dear Valued Customers, Consignors and Friends,

This is one of the hardest updates I have ever had to share.

After 10 years in our current Dublin location, Trading Places has received official notice that we must vacate this space by June 14.

Clarifying What Is Happening

For the last several years, Trading Places has been operating under a month-to-month lease arrangement rather than a long-term lease. While we understood that came with some uncertainty, we continued forward in good faith and with the hope that if a change ever came, we would have enough time to plan, prepare, and transition thoughtfully.

Unfortunately, we have now received official notice that we must vacate our current location by June 14 as a new tenant will be coming into the space.

That is why this is happening so quickly.

I also want to be very clear that this is not about blame. I have had a good relationship with my landlord, and they have been good to me over the last 10 years. I have also had kind and constructive conversations with the incoming tenant, who has been very gracious as we work through this transition.

In the end, this was a business decision. While the timing is difficult and emotional, I am choosing to move through it with gratitude, professionalism, and respect for everyone involved.

Challenges Are Opportunities in Disguise:

What’s Next for Trading Places?

This quote has always been my guiding force.

I will be honest, this challenge has come with a lot of emotion, uncertainty, and pressure. But I am also trying to look at it through the lens of possibility.

Many people have asked if we are looking for a new location.

The honest answer is: we are exploring all options of what may be possible.

One of the most important things I want people to understand is that Trading Places is more than a storefront. Over the last 17 years, we have built a proven, highly organized resale business model with systems, processes, software, pricing structures, consignor procedures, marketing, customer relationships, operational workflows, and a trusted name in the community.

In many ways, Trading Places is now a relocatable business-in-a-box.

That means the right next opportunity could look a few different ways.

  • It could mean finding the right new location.
  • It could mean partnering with or transitioning into a complementary business that would benefit from adding a proven furniture, home decor, and consignment model.
  • It could mean someone who has always dreamed of owning a resale, home decor, or consignment business stepping into an established brand, operating system, customer base, and proven concept rather than starting from scratch.

At this moment, I do not know exactly what the next chapter looks like.

But I do know this: if there is someone in our community who sees the opportunity in what Trading Places has become, I would welcome a conversation.

If you own a complementary business, have access to a great location, have thought about starting a resale business, or know someone who may be the right fit for what Trading Places has built, please reach out.

Let’s talk!

Shopping, Markdowns, and What to Expect

We will be holding sales, markdown events, and special promotions throughout the store as we work quickly to reduce inventory before our June 14 exit date.

However, this is not a chaotic liquidation or going-out-of-business fire sale.

Trading Places has always operated with a structured markdown system, and we will continue to be thoughtful and organized as we move through inventory. We are also honoring and being respectful with our consignors as we work through this transition.

That said, the timeline has changed.

If you have had your eye on something, now is the time to come in. In the past, some customers have waited for the next automatic markdown. Under normal circumstances, that makes sense. But with our official exit date set for June 14, waiting may not work the same way it used to.

An item you love may sell before the next markdown. A markdown date you were watching may fall after we are no longer in this location.

You can shop with us in-store, and you can also browse our current inventory online at TradingPlacesOH.com. Our inventory is online, and we encourage you to check the website often as items may move quickly.

How Can You Help?

So many people have asked, “How can we help?”

The answer is simple, and it means more than you know.

Please share our news.

Tell your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, designers, Realtors, stagers, clients, and anyone you know who loves beautiful furniture, home decor, artwork, and unique pieces.

Encourage them to stop in, shop in-store, or browse online at TradingPlacesOH.com to help us reduce inventory before June 14.

  • Every visit helps.
  • Every online order helps.
  • Every purchase helps.
  • Every share, comment, referral, and kind word helps.

With love and gratitude,

Michelle and The Trading Places Team
